Oak Harbor, Coupeville athletes receive all-conference honors

Twenty-eight Oak Harbor High School fall athletes received all-league honors, the Western Conference announced Tuesday, and Coupeville junior Katrina McGranahan was named the Olympic League’s 1A Most Valuable Player in volleyball last week.

Of the 28 Wildcats selected, 13 were named to the first team. The volleyball, soccer and cross country honors included all 13 3A Wesco schools. The other sports were divided into North and South divisions. The football North also included Ferndale and Squalicum athletes.

Only volleyball honors were released by the Olympic League as of press time Tuesday.

OH Football

Oak Harbor senior linemen D’Andre Bellamy and Sam Zook received first-team Wesco North honors on both offense and defense. Zook was a repeat selection; Bellamy was a second-team choice on offense last fall.

Senior Princeton Lollar was named as a first-team running back for the second consecutive year.

Second team honors went to junior TJ Hollins-Passmore (defensive back), sophomore Dorian Hardin (defensive back), senior John Purcell (defensive line), senior Jordan Washington (linebacker), junior Mac Nuanez (linebacker) and junior Taeson Hardin (running back).

Senior Brycin McIntyre and juniors Weston Whitefoot, Ozell Jackson and Mac Carr were honorable mention.

OH Cross Country

Oak Harbor sophomore Alexis Smith was the only Wildcat on the all-league list, earning second team honors. She was a first-team North selection last year and would have been again this season had the selections been split among divisions.

OH Soccer

Junior midfielder Caylie Etherington was named to the first team, freshman defender Mikhaela Cortez was a second-team choice and senior midfielder Kyra McConaghy received honorable mention. Etherington earned honorable mention in 2015.

OH Swim and Dive

Junior Olivia Tungate earned first team honors in two individual events (100 backstroke and 100 freestyle) and on two relay teams (200 medley and 200 free) with senior Molly Vagt and juniors Jillian Pape and Taliah Black.

Vagt (200 free) and Pape (50 free, for the second year in a row) also picked up first-team honors in individual events.

OH Tennis

Senior Jackson Wezeman captured his third consecutive first-team selection in singles, while senior JJ Mitchell, playing tennis for the first time, also received first-team singles honors.

OH Volleyball

Junior Hailee Blau (middle blocker, opposite) was a first-team selection, and senior Lauren May (libero) and junior Andrea Ruben (setter) were honorable mention. Blau was an honorable mention choice as a sophomore.

CV Volleyball

Coupeville, the conference champion, dominated the all-conference selections.

In addition to McGranahan being named the league’s MVP, first-year coach Cory Whitmore was selected Coach of the Year.

Senior Valen Trujillo and junior Hope Lodell were first-team choices and junior Lauren Rose received honorable mention.

McGranahan and Trujillo repeated as first-teamers.

Trujillo finished her career with 550 digs, a school record.

Lodell served 110 aces this year, which not only set a new school single-season record but passed the school career record of 109 set by Mindy Horr. Lodell has 141 career aces.
