Oak Harbor collects 1st win / Baseball

The Oak Harbor High School baseball team finally put a check in the win column this spring, winning 4-1 at Stanwood Thursday, April 12.

Shaky defense has hurt the Wildcats all year, but Oak Harbor committed no errors in the win to back an outstanding pitching performance by Aiden McCarthy.

The sophomore right hander tossed a two-hitter with four strikeouts.

“Aiden McCarthy pitched a great game and Aaron Martinez caught an awesome game,” coach Cody Anderson said.

The Wildcats scored three times in the top of the third inning when they recorded three of their four hits.

Austin Boesch started the rally with a single and was bunted to second by Caleb Fitzgerald. Martinez singled in Boesch. Martinez later scored on Thomas Anderson’s base hit, then Anderson scored on a wild pitch after walks to Andrew Dixon and Joseph Dixon.

After Stanwood (6-5, 7-6) scored in the fifth, Oak Harbor answered in the sixth. Boesch was hit by a pitch and scooted around the bases on a pair of errors.

Chase Ogden also had a hit for Oak Harbor.

Oak Harbor (1-10, 1-11) plays at Edmonds-Woodway (4-4, 5-6) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 13.
