Oak Harbor boys throw one to Panthers

"The turnover disease that plagued Oak Harbor all night against Snohomish struck again in the fourth quarter Tuesday. Garrett Stone's pass down court sailed out of bounds, and the Wildcats could get no closer in a 49-41 loss."

“Oak Harbor had an opportunity to pull off an upset over Snohomish on Tuesday night. Down by seven with 1:30 left in the game, Eric Collins hit a 3-pointer from the corner to pull the Wildcats to within four at 43-39. After a Snohomish miss, the Wildcats broke loose for a fast break and a chance to pull themselves to within two. Unfortunately the turnover disease that had plagued Oak Harbor all night struck again. Garrett Stone’s pass down court sailed out of bounds, and the Wildcats could get no closer in a 49-41 loss.Turnovers were the problem from the beginning. The Wildcats had six in the first quarter and 14 overall, while the Panthers only had six for the game. Even so, the contest was never really out of reach for the Wildcats. They only trailed 23-20 at the half. In the second half the Panthers were able to maintain a seven point cushion until the Collins 3-pointer pulled the Wildcats as close as they had been since the beginning of the third quarter. That’s as close as they would get, however, as Snohomish converted foul shots and hung on. The win keeps the Panthers playoff hopes alive.Neither team really shot the lights out. The Wildcats were 16-for-40 from the field, or 40 percent, while the Panthers were 18-for-46, or 39 percent. We missed a lot of second chances and couldn’t convert the easy baskets, Jay Hartman said. Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Stone with 11 points, Brett Waller with 9 and Eric Marshall with 8. The Panthers were led by Will VanDuine with 17 points, highlighted by a huge slam dunk in the second quarter.
