Northwest Board looking for new basketball officials

Anyone interested in officiating high school and middle school basketball is invited to attend a meeting of the Northwest Board of Basketball Officials at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at LaVenture Middle School in Mount Vernon.

The NWB provides officials for boys and girls games in Island, Skagit, San Juan and Whatcom counties.

Members can choose to officiate boys games, girls games or both.

“We need more men and women, from college students to retirees, to fill the important role that officials have in basketball,” said Ron Van Soest, NWB president. “It’s a great way to be involved in the game and receive supplemental income.”

Training for new and returning officials will take place at the first meeting.

Middle school games begin in November and high school games start after Thanksgiving.
