Murphy’s depth sinks Oak Harbor / Swim and dive

Superior depth helped the Archbishop Thomas Murphy swim team top Oak Harbor 87-72 Tuesday, Sept. 18, at West Coast Aquatics in Mill Creek.

ATM (1-1) won only one more event than the small Oak Harbor squad, but piled up a bundle of fourths and fifths to secure the win.

Oak Harbor was led by Caitlin Dennen, who won the the 200-yard freestyle (2:22.95), 100 breaststroke (1:24.83) and the 400 free relay (4:49.25) with Grace Chargualaf, Frances Empinado and Lindsey Griffith.

Chargualaf (100 butterfly, 1:11.98) and Empinado (100 backstroke, 1:15.41) each collected individual wins as well.

Because John Vanderzicht Pool is closed, the Oak Harbor swimmers are training outdoors at Admiral’s Cove and cannot host a home meet.

Oak Harbor (1-3) goes to Stanwood (3-0) at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25.
