Murphy pulls away after break / Soccer

Archbishop Murphy exploded for three second-half goals to break open a close contest and win 5-1 over the Oak Harbor High School soccer team Monday, April 1, in Everett.

Archbishop Murphy led only 2-1 at the break, dodging several good scoring opportunities for Oak Harbor.

“Unfortunately last night did not go well,” coach Jeff Laiblin said. “We played equal or better most of the night against Archbishop. We completely shut down their attack.

“It looked like this was going to be our night until we started giving up set pieces. The field we were playing on was very narrow and they had it dialed in to perfection. We gave up three goals to corners and one free kick.”

Brandon McCracken scored for Oak Harbor off an assist from Maxwell Brighton.

“One of the things that impressed me last night about the team was we played well despite not having several players,” Laiblin said.

Oak Harbor (0-7, 0-9) faces Shorewood (4-1, 4-2-1) at Shoreline Stadium at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3.
