Mihill, Hall pace Wolves / Cross country

Alana Mihill and Mitchell Hall led the Coupeville High School cross country runners at a North Sound Conference meet Wednesday, Oct. 9, at South Whidbey High School.

The Coupeville boys tied with King’s for fourth in the six-team meet with 104 points; South Whidbey won with 32.

Only four Coupeville girls competed and it takes five to qualify for a team score. King’s finished first with 34.

Sophomore Mihill placed the highest for Coupeville, taking ninth in the 5,000-meter girls race in 23:55.59.

Claire Mayne was 12th (24:36.09), Helen Strelow 17th (25:57.49) and Cristina McGrath 21st (27:15.93).

Defending state champion Naomi Smith of King’s hit the tape first in 18:55.74.

Freshman Hall paced the Coupeville boys by grabbing 10th in 19:12.11. Sam Wynn finished 22nd (20:30.11), Aidan Wilson 23rd (20:34.26), Cameron Epp 29th (20:45.49), Reiley Araceley 37th (21:18.51), Aiden Anderson 43rd (21:44.31), Alexander Wasik 49th (21:58.11), Tate Wyman 50th (21:58.71) and Chris Ruck 58th (23:07.8).

South Whidbey’s Michael Harwell won the race in 17:18.65.

Coupeville heads to Lakewood for the Hole in the Wall meet at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
