McGranahan leads list of league honorees

Coupeville High School junior Katrina McGranahan was named the co-Most Valuable Player in the Olympic League in softball this spring, leading the list of honors picked up by Coupeville and Oak Harbor high school athletes.

In all, 33 Wolves and Wildcats were first-team selections in the Olympic League and Western Conference.

Softball

McGranahan, a three-time first-team selection, shared the MVP award with Chimacum’s Shanya Nisbet. McGranahan’s teammate, junior third baseman Lauren Rose, also received first-team honors for the third time. Junior outfielder Hope Lodell earned her second first-team selection, and junior shortstop Mikayla Elfrank was a first-time first-team choice.

Oak Harbor’s Audrey Howard, a senior shortstop, was a second-team Wesco North selection, and sophomores Megan Flood and Ciera LeGendre and freshman Brooke Gilham were honorable mention.

Baseball

Coupeville junior pitcher Hunter Smith and sophomore infielder Matt Hilborn were picked for the Olympic League first team for the second consecutive year. Senior outfielder Clay Reilly and senior catcher Taylor Consford were other Wolves earning first-team honors.

Oak Harbor’s Trent Benson, a senior infielder, received first-team honors, while senior Steven Richards was second team as both a pitcher and first baseman and senior Dylan Bailey as an outfielder.

Track

Coupeville freshman Maya Toomey-Stout was first team in the 100 and 200 meters and on the 4×200 relay team with senior Lauren Grove, sophomore Lindsey Roberts and freshman Mallory Kortuem.

Junior Jacob Smith (100, 200) and sophomore Danny Conlisk (400, 800) were also champions in two individual events and joined junior Henry Wynn and senior Mitchell Carroll on the first-place 4×400 relay team.

Carroll also won the triple jump.

Ariah Bepler (high jump), Skyler Lawrence (shot put) and Naika Hallam (javelin) were other Olympic League 1A champions.

For Oak Harbor, junior Taeson Hardin won the Wesco North 100 title and ran on the winning 4×100 relay team with senior Jordan Washington, junior Andrew Miller and sophomore Dorian Hardin.

Junior Mac Nuanez won the 400 for the second straight year and junior Ozell Jackson won the high jump; the two ran with seniors Miguel Guzman and Chris Brown on the first-team 4×400 relay.

Miller (long jump), senior Ben Bozeman (javelin) and senior Garren Guerrero (triple jump) were second-team choices; and Guzman (400) was honorable mention.

For the Wildcat girls, senior Julie Jansen was first team in the discus. Honorable mention honors went to junior Amaya Rittierodt (100) and sophomore Cami Bristow (javelin), and the 4×200 relay team of Rittierodt, junior Jenna Cooley, senior Jennifer Turnek and junior Alora Caillier.

Soccer

The Wolves’ William Nelson was a first-team repeat choice this year, and Uriel Liquidano also earned first-team honors.

In Western Conference soccer, the schools are not divided into North and South divisions like the other sports. The all-league honors cover all 13 teams, and Oak Harbor senior JJ Mitchell was a first-team selection for the third consecutive year.

Senior goalkeeper Jared Hoyt was a second-team choice; and seniors Kurtis Zylstra, Kegan Snell, Seth Gluth and Andrew Franssen and junior Eric Closson were honorable mention.

Golf

Oak Harbor freshman Nick Krantz earned a spot on the Wesco North first team.

Tennis

Coupeville senior Valen Trujillo was league singles champion for the second consecutive year, and the junior duo of Payton Aparicio and Sage Renninger repeated as doubles champions.
