Late Eagle rally sinks Wolves / Baseball

Cedar Park Christian defeated the Coupeville High School baseball team 12-3 Wednesday, March 20, on the Wolves’ diamond, but the game was anything but one-sided.

The scored stood at 3-3 until the Eagles exploded for nine runs in the top of the final inning.

Coupeville received a strong pitching performance from Matt Hilborn. The senior hurler had to be lifted after six innings because he hit his pitch limit, and Cedar Park Christian jumped on three Coupeville relievers to secure the win.

The Eagles (2-0, 2-1), who reached the final four in the state playoffs the past two years, and Coupeville (0-2, 0-4) complete their three-game series in Redmond at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 22.

Cedar Park Christian scored twice in the first inning, then Hilborn held the Eagles in check until they scored a run in the fifth to knot the score at 3.

The Wolves scored once in the third when Daniel Olson reach on an error and walks to Bryce Payne and Hawthorne Wolfe loaded the bases. Olson then scored on a balk.

An inning later, Olson followed singles by Ulrik Wells and Gavin Knoblich with a two-run base hit to give the Wolves the lead.
