Krantz earns trip to state tournament / Boys, girls golf

Oak Harbor High School freshman Nick Krantz qualified for the 3A state boys golf tournament by placing 11th in the district meet Monday and Tuesday, May 15 and 16, at Everett’s Walter Hall Golf Course.

No Wildcat girls earned state berths during their district tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Stanwood’s Kayak Point Golf Course.

Boys Golf

Krantz shot an 82 and slipped from ninth to 11th on the second day of the two-day tournament but remained among the top 18 to qualify for state. Krantz fired a 77 Monday.

Sophomore Haven Brown carded an 81 Tuesday and shot up from 33rd to 23rd with a two-day total of 168 but fell short of a return trip to state. Brown finished 75th at state in 2016.

Junior Nick Whitley finished 29th with a 171 (84, 87).

Josef Koznek of Everett was district medalist with an even-par 144 (73, 71).

The state tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 23 and 24, at Richland’s Columbia Point Golf Course.

Girls Golf

Jessica Monaghan, like Brown, failed to reach state after qualifying last spring. She shot a 217 (113, 104) at district and finished 27th. The top 19 earned state berths.

Kayleigh Burbank was 31st at 224 (115, 109), and Makayln Miller placed 34th at 227 (110, 117).

Beth Paul did not make the cut after shooting 136 on the opening day.

Snohomish’s Vreni Todd earned the district title with a 174 (88, 86).
