High school postseason begins this week

It’s the playoff season for high school spring sports, and the Coupeville soccer team will be the first local club to jump into postseason action.

Soccer

The Wolves (3-6, 4-10-1), the third-place team in the Olympic League, play the Nisqually League’s fourth-place team, Bellevue Christian (5-8), in a loser-out, district play-in match at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Oak Harbor’s Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

If Coupeville wins, it will play Vashon Island (8-4-1), the Nisqually League’s second-place team, at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Curtis High School in another loser-out contest. That winner advances to the four-team, double-elimination portion of the district tournament May 11 and 13 at Silverdale Stadium. The top two teams qualify for state.

Oak Harbor did not qualify for the postseason.

Track

Coupeville travels to North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo for the Olympic League championships at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6. The league meet will also serve as a sub-district for the 1A schools, with the top qualifiers moving on to the district meet at Renton High School May 19 and 20.

Oak Harbor hosts the Wesco North division meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, and 5 p.m. Friday, May 12.

The district meet is May 17 and 19 at Shoreline Stadium.

Tennis

The three Olympic League 1A schools will meet at Chimacum Thursday, May 11, for the conference championships. District is May 18 at the Sprinker Tennis Center in Tacoma.

Oak Harbor and the Wesco North schools will play in the divisional championships at Snohomish High School at 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, May 9-11. The top four singles players and top four doubles teams qualify for the district tournament May 16 and 17 in Arlington.

Golf

The Oak Harbor boys golf team goes to Gleneagle Golf Course in Arlington for the North division championships Monday, May 8. District is Monday and Tuesday, May 15 and 16, at Everett’s Walter Hall Golf Course, and the top 18 will qualify for state.

The Wildcat girls take part in the Wesco North championships at Kayak Point in Stanwood Monday, May 8.

Kayak Point will also host the district tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 16 and 17. The first 17 earn state berths.

Baseball

Coupeville (10-8), the second-place team in the Olympic League, will host Bellevue Christian (7-10), the third-place team in the Nisqually League, in a district, loser-out game at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. The winner qualifies along with three other teams for the double-elimination part of the tournament and will play Seattle Christian (15-2), the Nisqually champion, at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Curtis. Three teams move on to state.

Oak Harbor did not qualify for the postseason.

Softball

With two league games left, Coupeville’s (14-2) seeding into the district tournament is still not determined. District is May 19 and 20 at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma. Two teams will qualify for state.

Oak Harbor has four Wesco games remaining but most likely will not qualify for the playoffs.
