Good start not enough for Wildcats / Softball

The Oak Harbor High School softball team had a nice first inning in its game with visiting Marysville Getchell Saturday, May 6; the remainder of the game wasn’t so pleasant.

The Chargers defeated the Wildcats 12-4.

After Getchell failed to score in the top of the first inning, Oak Harbor piled up four runs its half. From there, the Wildcats were blanked and the Chargers scored in every inning.

Brooke Gilham doubled and Brooke Wilson, Cierra LeGendre, Audrey Howard, Miranda Wilson and Lyndsay Duchnowski all singled in Oak Harbor’s big first inning.

The Wildcats produced only five more base runners over the final six innings: Gilham stroked a triple and single, Kait Scheer singled twice and Howard rapped a base hit.

The Chargers (7-7, 8-7) scored twice in the second inning and then three times in the third to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Oak Harbor (1-15, 1-17) finishes it season this week with two games. It travels to Stanwood (6-10, 7-11) at 4 p.m. Monday, May 8, and hosts Marysville-Pilchuck (9-6, 10-7) at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Wildcats beat Stanwood 6-5 March 31 for their only win.
