Golden Eagles clip ‘Cats / Baseball

The Oak Harbor High School baseball team struck first, but host Ferndale struck more often to defeat the visiting Wildcats 7-2 Wednesday, March 20, in a non-league game.

The Wildcats (0-1, 1-2) return to Wesco play next week with a three-game series against Marysville Getchell (1-2, 2-3). The teams play at 4 p.m. in Oak Harbor Tuesday and Friday, March 26 and 29, and in Marysville Wednesday, March 27.

Ferndale 7, Oak Harbor 2

The Wildcats took advantage of a couple of Golden Eagle mistakes to score in the top of the first inning. Noah Meffert reached on two-base error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Ferndale (3-1) then scored seven runs over the next four innings to pull away.

Oak Harbor put runners on in every other inning by scored only once when Thomas Anderson blasted a home run in the sixth inning.

Austin Boesch, Caleb Fitzgerald and Meffert collected the only other Oak Harbor hits.
