Fast start carries Burlington over Oak Harbor / Babe Ruth baseball

A rugged first inning cost the Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team in its 14-6 loss to Burlington Thursday, May 11, at Clover Valley Park.

Burlington took advantage of seven walks, a hit batter and four hits in the first inning to score 11 runs.

Oak Harbor outscored Burlington from that point but the deficit was too great to overcome.

The two teams each finished with seven hits, but Burlington received 10 walks from three Wildcat pitchers.

Kyto Morrow, Gage McLeod and John Blankman each recorded two hits for Oak Harbor, and Shawn Day added a base hit.

One of Morrow’s hits was a double; he also stole a base.

McLeod and Blankman swiped two bags each.

McLeod pitched the final seven outs, allowing no hits and no runs while fanning six and walking one.

Oak Harbor (2-5-1) meets Coupeville for a pair of 6 p.m. games next week. The teams play at Coupeville High School Tuesday, May 16, and at Clover Valley Park Thursday, May 18.
