Fall prep preview / Oak Harbor volleyball

2018: 13-4; 11-3, third in conference; fourth in district; state qualifier.

Returning letter winners: seniors Leielle Salinger (honorable mention all-league in 2018), Jasmine Ford, Jaslin Webster; juniors Morgan Pease (first-team, all-conference outside hitter), Annie Salinger, Gredina DeGuzman; sophomore Payton Parks.

Key newcomer: sophomore Lacy Zylstra.

Coach’s comment: “My expectations are that every member of the team accepts her role/position and does the best she can for the team.

“I hope we can continue to be a supportive and dynamic team.

“We are fun to watch and have great support from our parents, student body and community. It’s exciting to fill the gym and represent Oak Harbor on game nights.

“We know it will be a battle (to return to state), but we are looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m just excited to work with this team. I’m so fortunate to work with such great girls.”

Note: District 1 receives only one state berth this year.

Strengths: Depth and attitude. “I have multiple players that can be moved to various positions. We are well-rounded and have good ball control. The team supports each other and is ready to work toward common goals.”

First competition: Oak Harbor Jamboree, 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.

First match: at Meadowdale, 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.

First home match: Cedarcrest, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
