Erikson earns regional berth / Girls wrestling

Oak Harbor’s Ella Erikson placed second at the girls subregional wrestling tournament at Bothell’s North Creek High School Saturday, Feb. 2, and secured a spot in the regional meet

The regional tournament is Saturday, Feb. 9, at Sedro-Woolley High School. The top four in each weight class qualify for Mat Classic XXXI, the state tournament, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16, at the Tacoma Dome.

Erikson was the only Wildcat to finish among the top four at the subregional and earn a regional berth. Erikson won three straight matches by falls before losing to Everett’s Vanessa Ochoa 8-4 in the title match of the 115-pound class.

Oak Harbor’s Anika Rasmussen placed sixth at 130 pounds.

As a team, the Wildcats finished ninth out of 29 schools with 46 points. Everett easily took the team title with 306 points.
