Eight Wildcats earn All-Wesco, first-team honors

Eight Oak Harbor High School athletes were named to the all-league first team when the Western Conference announced its all star squads this week.

Boys basketball, girls basketball and girls wrestling were selected from all 13 Western Conference 3A and 2A teams. Boys wrestling and swimming all-league teams were split between the north and south divisions.

Freshman swimmer Bruce Vagt earned first-team honors in three events based upon the results of the district meet.

He was the top Wesco North finisher in the 200 and 500 freestyles and in the 200 medley relay with senior Jose Cabigting, senior Andrew Franssen and junior Enrique Perez.

Perez was also first-team in the 100 freestyle.

Sophomore Blake McBride (132 pounds) and senior Sam Zook (285) were first-team selections in boys wrestling by winning their weight classes in the Wesco North tournament.

In girls wrestling, seniors Caitlin Woodworth (170) and Meredith Bain (190) finished first in the sub-regional tournament to earn first-team honors.

Seniors Adam Nelson and Bryn Langrock were honorable mention selections in boys and girls basketball, respectively.
