Coupeville defeated the Charles Wright Academy 10-0 Tuesday, but the Tarriers returned the favor when it meant the most, beating the Wolves 8-3 Saturday, May 12, at Curtis High School in a district tournament winner-to-state, loser-out game.

Coupeville, the Olympic League champion, finished the season with a 15-6 record.

Charles Wright (12-6) bunched nine of its 10 hits, including five for extra bases, in two innings, resulting in three runs in the third inning and five in the sixth to claim second place in the District 3 1A tournament and a state tournament berth.

After getting 11 hits in the win over CWA Tuesday, the Wolves managed only four Saturday.

Hunter Smith singled in Nick Etzell, who was hit by a pitch, in the third inning.

Jake Hoagland singled and Kyle Rockwell doubled in Coupeville’s two-run seventh inning.

Jake Pease recorded a base hit in the second inning for the Wolves’ fourth hit.

Smith, who blanked the Tarriers on Tuesday, took the loss.

Coupeville opened the tournament with its win over Charles Wright, then lost 6-1 to Bellevue Christian in the championship game. CWA stayed alive after the Coupeville loss by beating Chimacum 5-0 in a loser-out game, earning a second shot at the Wolves.
