Coupeville routs La Conner / Baseball

Scoring early and often, the Coupeville High School baseball team won 14-2 in five innings at La Conner Thursday, April 19.

The non-league victory set the stage for an Olympic League game with Klahowya (1-4, 2-9) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 20, in Coupeville. The Wolves are 2-1 in conference play and 8-4 overall. La Conner fell to 2-4.

Joey Lippo paced the Coupeville attack with four hits, including a double, three runs, three RBI and three stolen bases.

In all, Coupeville slugged 12 hits.

Dane Lucero and Jake Hoagland each had two hits; one of Lucero’s was a double.

Hunter Smith doubled and drove in three runs, and Matt Hilborn scored three times.

Julian Wellings collected a single and three RBI, Nick Etzell singled and drove in two runs and Kyle Rockwell had a base hit and scored twice.

Lucero picked up the pitching win with a four-hitter.

Coupeville was aided by five Brave errors which led to six unearned runs.

Coupeville scored three runs in each of the first two innings, and added four more in the third and fifth innings.
