A five-run second inning and the pitching of George Dailey set the tone for the Coupeville Babe Ruth baseball team’s 8-2 win over visiting Oak Harbor Tuesday, May 16.
The Wolves used three hits, three walks and two errors to produce the five runs in the second to jump to an early lead.
Dailey, who is from Oak Harbor, kept the Wildcats from coming back with a one-hitter, striking out nine and walking three. Dailey helped his cause with two hits, including a double in the big second inning.
Gabe McLeod collected the lone Oak Harbor hit, an infield single in the second inning.
The Oak Harbor team has only 13-year-olds; therefore, Dailey, who is 14, plays for the Wolves, a combination team of 13- and 14-year-olds.
Gavin Knoblich rapped two hits for Coupeville, and Cody Roberts, Xavier Murdy, Daniel Olson and Hawthorne Wolfe all singled.
Dailey, Roberts and Caleb Meyer each stole two bases.
The two teams play again at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Clover Valley Park.
