Behind a combined one-hitter by Dane Lucero and Matt Hilborn, the Coupeville High School baseball team edged visiting Port Townsend 3-1 Friday, March 30.
The Wolves collected their second Olympic League win in as many tries with the victory and upped their season record to 5-3. Port Townsend remained winless, dropping to 0-2 and 0-5.
Coupeville plays two non-league games this week, going to Friday Harbor (2-2) at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, and hosting Cedarcrest (6-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7.

The Redhawks scored an unearned run off Lucero in the first inning with a two-out single after an error. From that point, Lucero, who pitched three innings, and Hilborn, who pitched four, would blank Port Townsend on no hits and no walks. Lucero struck out four and Hilborn six.
Coupeville took the lead with two runs in the third inning.
Nick Etzell walked, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch. Then Joey Lippo walked, stole second and scored on Julian Welling’s two-out single.
Welling also drove in the Wolves’ final run, singling in Hunter Smith, who had doubled, in the fifth inning.
Wellings finished the day with two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases.
Hilborn, Smith, and Kyle Rockwell collected the Wolves’ only other hits; Etzell walked twice and stole three bases.
