Coupeville nips South Whidbey again / Tennis

For the second time this season, the Coupeville High School tennis team eked out a 3-2 win over rival South Whidbey.

The latest win in Coupeville Monday, Sept. 24, evened the Wolves’ record at 3-3.

The two singles matches were one-sided as Coupeville’s Drake Borden captured second singles 6-1, 6-1, while Jakobi Baumann fell in first singles 6-3, 6-2.

All three doubles matches were tight, and the Wolves produced comeback wins in two.

Coupeville’s Jacob Burke and Zach Ginnings prevailed in first doubles 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(7-4); and James Wood and Mason Grove won in second doubles 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Tiger Johnson and Jaschon Baumann were edged 7-6(8-6), 5-7, 10-7 in third doubles.

The Wolves play Eastside Prep at the Highland Community Center at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.
