Coupeville nabs 4 firsts at Sequim / Track

Going against three 2A schools, the Coupeville High School track team claimed four firsts in the four-team meet at Sequim Wednesday, April 18.

North Kitsap dominated the contest, winning both the boys and girls meets.

The Vikings more than doubled the score of second-place Olympic in the girls meet, 117-58. Coupeville scored 52 and Sequim 40.

In the boys meet, North Kitsap rolled up 105 points to defeat Sequim (69), Olympic (59.5) and Coupeville (30.5).

One of the Wolves’ top runners, Danny Conlisk, missed the meet because of illness, and another standout, Jacob Smith, competed in only one event because of a tight hamstring.

Three of Coupeville’s first places came on the girls side.

Mallory Kortuem (400, 1:04.78), Lindsey Roberts (100 hurdles, 16.23) and Lauren Bayne (high jump, 4-06) collected blue ribbons.

Ariah Bepler won the boys high jump (5-08).

The Wolves will compete in the Lil Norway Invitational hosted by North Kitsap at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, in Poulsbo.
