Coupeville hosts tie-breaker tonight / Soccer

The Coupeville High School soccer team will try to keep its season alive when it hosts Sultan in a tie-breaker match at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.

The Wolves lost 6-1 to visiting Granite Falls and Sultan fell 3-0 at Cedar Park Christian Wednesday, Oct. 23. Those setbacks in the final regular-season match left Coupeville and Sultan with identical 1-9 conference records and tied for fifth place.

The Wolves and Turks now face off to determine the North Sound Conference’s fifth seed into the postseason.

Earlier this year, Coupeville and Sultan split 1-0 matches.

The winner of the tie-breaker game advances to host the district play-in match with the Northwest Conference’s No. 4 seed, most likely Mount Baker, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

That winner plays at Cedar Park Christian in the district tournament at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in another loser-out match.

Coupeville honored its five seniors (Anna Dion, Natalie Hollrigel, Mallory Kortuem, Avalon Renninger and Tia Wurzrainer) at the match with Granite Falls Wednesday.

The Tigers built a 3-0 halftime lead and led 5-0 before Coupeville’s Mallory Kortuem tallied for the Wolves.
