Coupeville High School to celebrate 101 years of basketball

Jan. 19, 1917, Coupeville High School played its first basketball game.

Now, more than a century later, the Wolves will celebrate their 101th anniversary when they host Chimacum at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19.

A special game program will recount the history of Coupeville hoops and feature the first contest, a 29-7 win over Langley; the Wolves’ all-time, top 15 scorers; and Coupeville’s record-setting squad from 1969-70.

All former players and coaches are invited to attend.

Two team members of the featured team from 1969-70, Jeff Stone and Corey Cross, and assistant coach Craig Pedlar have committed so far, as well as family representatives of two of the three deceased players, Glenn Losey and Marvin Darst.
