Coupeville girls win 3-team meet / Track

Winning a close contest, the Coupeville High School girls track team edged Cedar Park Christian and South Whidbey Thursday, April 25, in Langley.

The Coupeville girls scored 59 points, while CPC and the Falcons tied for second with 51.

The Wolves took second in the boys meet with 58 points, trailing South Whidbey (73) and beating the Eagles (49).

The girls won eight events, highlighted by Mallory Kortuem’s school record in the pole vault. The junior jumped 8-03, topping her old mark of 8-0.

Kortuem also won the 400 (1:01.95) and ran on two winning relay teams. She teamed with Ja’Tarya Hoskins, Lindsey Roberts and Maya Toomey-Stout to take the 4×100 (51.66); and with Ja’Kenya Hoskins, Roberts and Toomey-Stout to win the 4×400 (1:50.18).

Roberts (100 hurdles, 16.12; high jump, 4-08) and Toomey-Stout (100, 13.1; long jump, 15-10) joined Kortuem in being part of four winning events.

Sean Toomey-Stout was a three-time winner for the boys. He won the long jump (20-03.5), triple jump (38-07) and 4×100 (45.19) with Danny Conlisk, Lucious Halstead and Jean Lund Olsen.

Other winners for the Coupeville boys were Lund Olsen (100, 11.3), Ryan Labrador (shot put, 40-03.75), Chris Battaglia (discus, 111-03) and Koa Davisson (high jump, 5-10).

Coupeville will head to the North Sound Conference championships at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Granite Falls.
