Coupeville claims winning record in tough conference / Tennis

A win in its final regular season match enabled the Coupeville High School tennis team finish with a winning record in the powerful Emerald City League.

The Wolves beat visiting Eastside Prep 4-1 Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Coupeville and South Whidbey are the only North Sound Conference schools to field boys tennis teams, so the island schools play in the Emerald City League, which features several of the most successful schools in state 1A tennis.

The Wolves finished with a 7-6 record (8-6 overall), good for fourth place in the eight-team league behind Seattle Academy (13-0), University Prep (11-3) and Overlake (9-3).

Coupeville also received the conference’s sportsmanship award.

Now the Wolves head to the league tournament at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Amy Yee Tennis Center in Seattle.
