Chimacum tops Coupeville — again / Softball

Chimacum continued its dominance over the Coupeville High School softball team, beating the visiting Wolves 7-2 Monday, May 8.

Coupeville has won 15 games this season against three losses, and the Cowboys handed the Wolves each of those setbacks.

The contest was the final Olympic League game of the season for Coupeville, and the Wolves (6-3, 15-3) finished second in the Olympic League to Chimacum (7-1, 9-3).

Coupeville completes the regular season at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Sequim in a non-league doubleheader. The teams will complete a suspended game that was stopped because of rain May 4 and then play another complete game.

Chimacum 7, Coupeville 2

Taking a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning, it looked like Coupeville might finally knock off the Cowboys. Chimacum, however, rallied for six runs to complete the season sweep.

The Wolves started the game with consecutive singles by Lauren Rose, Jae LeVine and Katrina McGranahan to score a run in the first inning. A walk to Sarah Wright reloaded the bases with no outs, but Coupeville was unable to plate another run.

Chimacum tallied the tying run in its half of the first, then the Wolves regained the lead with a run in the second. Tiffany Briscoe led off with a walk and scored on an error.

Pitcher McGranahan held the Cowboys in check through the first five innings, surrendering just one run and five hits. The Chimacum offense came alive in the sixth and mixed four hits with a walk and two errors to put the game away.

McGranahan finished with six strikeouts and started a double play by snaring a popped-up bunt and doubling off the base runner at first.

She also led the offense with a triple and single.

LeVine and Hope Lodell added two singles; Rose had the team’s other base hit.
