Central Whidbey falls to Sedro-Woolley in championship game / 10-12 softball

Host Sedro-Woolley defeated Central Whidbey twice Saturday, June 16, to claim the District 11 Little League Major Softball championship at Janiki Fields.

After winning twice earlier in the week, including a win over Sedro-Woolley, Central Whidbey needed only one victory Saturday to take the title and state berth, but the Coupeville club couldn’t match Sedro-Woolley’s offense.

Sedro-Woolley scored in every inning but one in the doubleheader to win the games 14-3 and 13-6.

Central Whidbey scored its final run in the bottom of the third inning to trail by only one, 4-3.

Sedro-Woolley tacked on two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game away.

In Central Whidbey’s first inning, a walk to Savina Wells and consecutive singles by Adrian Burrows, Allie Lucero and Maya Lucero produced the two runs.

Allie Lucero walked in the third and moved along on singles by Maya Lucero and Sofia Peters for another run.

Gwen Gustafson had Central Whidbey’s only other hit, a single in the second inning.
