‘Cats win first match with helping hand from MV / Wrestling

Taking advantage of a handful of forfeits, the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team whipped visiting Mount Vernon 52-28 in the first match of the season Thursday, Nov. 30.

The Bulldogs were able to fill only six of the 14 weight classes, giving up 48 points. Oak Harbor forfeited the 195-pound match.

The Wildcats won only one of the five matches that were contested. Ethan Pace captured the 170-pound bout 13-3.

Winners by forfeit were Corbyn Taylor (106 pounds), Chase Ogden (120), Caleb Fitzgerald (126), Giovanni Ribay (132), Dylan Sanchez (138), Blake McBride (145), Shingo Johnston (152) and Tristian Simmons (182).

Noah Hangan (160) lost 14-3, and Shamus Warden (113), Salvador Triado (220) and Keagan Daniels (275) all lost by falls.

Oak Harbor (1-0) will compete in the 27-team Edmonds Invitational at Edmonds-Woodway High School at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. The next home match is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, with Snohomish.
