‘Cats nearly upset Spartans / Tennis

The Stanwood High School tennis team slipped away from Oak Harbor with a 4-3 win Tuesday, April 10.

Four of the seven matches went three sets. Oak Harbor was able to pull out wins in all but one of those tight contests, but the first-place Spartans (3-0, 5-2) rolled to straight-set victories in three others to avoid an upset.

The Wildcats (1-3, 2-5) play a non-league match at South Whidbey (3-0) at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12.

Oak Harbor results with Stanwood

Singles: 1, Maddie McKenzie lost 6-0, 6-1; 2, Emma Wezeman lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-2; 3, MJ Timm won 3-6, 6-1, 6-3; 4, Sierra Brackeen won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Doubles: 1, Danielle Lonborg/Shaina Aguirre won 6-3, 0-6, 6-3; 2, Taliah Black/Emily Gouge lost 6-3, 6-2; 3, Elica Atienza/Jasmine Schultz lost 6-0, 6-2.
