‘Cats cut down Getchell / Baseball

The Oak Harbor High School baseball team finally got a little breathing room, winning 9-0 at Marysville Getchell Monday, April 24.

The win was Oak Harbor’s third of the season; the other two were tense one-run games.

The win also lifted the Wildcats into fifth place in the Wesco North and into the final playoff berth. Oak Harbor is 3-12 in league, one game up in the win column over Getchell and Everett.

Oak Harbor will try to hold the spot with three games remaining. The first two are with Snohomish (10-3, 11-4), the North’s second-place team.

The clubs play at 4 p.m. in Snohomish on Tuesday, April 25, and in Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Wildcats wrap up the regular season at 6 p.m. Friday at Lynnwood (7-8).

The Wildcats scored three times in the third, four times in the fifth and twice in the seventh to secure the win.

Singles by Austin Boesch, Dylan Bailey, Aaron Martinez and Steven Richards led to the trio of third-inning runs.

In the fifth, doubles by Martinez and Kamren Mebane, singles by Trent Benson and Thomas Anderson and a pair of walks led to four runs.

Singles by Mebane and Bailey helped produce two runs in the seventh.

Mebane ignited the offense with a double and two singles, while Martinez added a double and single. Bailey and Richards each singled twice, and Boesch, Benson and Anderson chipped in with base hits.

Richards picked up the pitching win.
