Blue Heron set club records, personal bests in Victoria / NWAC

Seven members of the North Whidbey Aquatics Club were among the 800 competitors at the 14th annual PCS Christmas Cracker in Victoria last weekend.

Several club records and a handful of personal best times highlighted the Blue Heron’s efforts.

Lola Chargualaf, 10, set two NWAC records (200 butterfly, 3:11.03; 200 backstroke, 3:03.35). She also recorded NWAC’s top finish in the meet, taking fifth in 200 fly.

Lindsay Brown, 11, and Lecya Santiago, 12, earned NWAC’s Swimmers of the Meet honors, according to coach Dick Taylor.

Brown clocked six NWAC top-16 short course times in seven events and reached five B finals and one A final. She placed eighth in the 400-meter freestyle in 5:15.97, which qualified her for the Northwest Age Group Championships next March.

Her time of 3:02.24 in the 200 breaststroke, which shaved nearly 13 seconds off her PR, is second on the NWAC record board.

Santiago grabbed spots in three B finals and one A final and posted five top-16 NWAC times, including an impressive 30.76 is the 50 free.

Robin Zemlo, 12, was chosen by Taylor as NWAC’s Most Improved Swimmer as she collected five PRs.

Ashleigh Merrill, 13, qualified for two B finals and clocked four top-16 NWAC times.

Kiersten Tyson, 10, had four top-16 NWAC times, all personal bests, including a 33.08 in the 50 free, second best all-time for the Blue Heron.

Grace Chargualaf, 14, battling an illness, recorded a PR in the 100 free.
