Another comeback stuns Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

For the second time this week, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball was victimized by a fourth-quarter comeback, the latest a 53-50 loss to visiting Mountlake Terrace Wednesday, Jan. 11.

The Wildcats held a 42-30 lead going into the final period, then the Hawks (1-2, 2-10) ripped off 23 points to Oak Harbor’s 8 to pull out the Wesco win.

On Monday, the Wildcats were up by 8 heading into the fourth quarter but lost to Mount Vernon 41-36 in a non-league game.

In the loss to Mountlake Terrace, Oak Harbor steadily pulled ahead over the first three periods.

Bryn Langrock scored 8 points in each of the first two quarters with the help of a trio of three-pointers as the Wildcats led 13-8 and 26-18 at the quarter breaks.

Jordan Wood-Pina pumped in a pair of threes as Oak Harbor outscored the Hawks 16-12 in the third period.

Oak Harbor converted only one field goal over the final 8 minutes.

The Wildcats made six of seven free throws in the fourth quarter, but Terrace countered by hitting all six of its attempts. Before the fourth, Oak Harbor made only six of 15 tries; the Hawks finished the game 18-for-24 at the stripe.

The Wildcats scored a season-high 50 points in the loss.

After getting 16 points in the first half, Langrock collected only 2 after halftime and scored 18 for the game. Rashanna Graham added 12, Wood-Pina 10, Mikhaela Cortez 6 and Julie Jansen 4.

Oak Harbor (0-5, 3-10) goes league-leading Shorecrest (5-0, 8-4) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
