A strong second round at district Tuesday, May 18, helped Oak Harbor’s Judd Ford qualify for the state 4A golf tournament.
Ford will now make his third consecutive trip to state; this year the tournament will be at Richland’s Canyon Lake Golf Course Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25 and 26.
The top 14 golfers at district, played at the Everett Golf and Country Club, qualified for state. Ford found himself in 23rd place after shooting an 80 the first day. The Wildcat junior fired a 74 in the second round, the second best score in the field, to jump to 10th.
Two other Oak Harbor golfers made the cut after the first round. Matt Fikse finished 28th with rounds of 85 and 81. Austin Fields shot 83 and 89 for 36th.
Wildcats Greg Martin and Jim Nguyen missed the cut after the first round by one and two strokes respectively.
