The Coupeville boys soccer team will try to punch its ticket to bi-district when to faces Nooksack Valley at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School Saturday, May 8, in the final sub-district match.

The Wolves eliminated visiting Lynden Christian 3-2 Wednesday before falling to host Meridian 2-0 Thursday in earlier sub-district action.

Meridian (9-8) will match up with King's (12-3) Saturday to determine the top two seeds heading to bi-district.

The Coupeville-Nooksack winner will get the third seed, the loser will be eliminated.

Nooksack Valley (9-9) eliminated Friday Harbor 6-0 Wednesday and lost to King's 5-0 Thursday.

In Coupeville's loss at Meridian, the Wolves "scored" first, but the goal was denied because of off sides.

The Trojans' Anatoli Datskiy's shot deflected off a Coupeville defender and found the net to give Meridian the lead just seconds before halftime.

Meridian notched its second goal in the 62nd minute when a Coupeville clearing kick in front of the net ricocheted off a Wolf and into the goal. Greg Couweleers was credited with the score.

Coupeville coach Paul Mendes said, "It was a defense battle early. They had an outstanding goalie (Dakota Hundley)."

He added, "We will focus on the future now. This team has bounced back before."
