Girls golf: Cone, Hamilton lead 'Cats to victory

Picking up its second win in five league matches, the Oak Harbor girls golf team defeated Lake Stevens and host Stanwood at the Battle Creek Golf Course Thursday, April 29.
The Wildcats earned 127 points (modified Stableford scoring) in the 11-hole match; Lake Stevens posted 110 and Stanwood 64.
Melany Cone and Simone Hamilton shared medalist honors with 27 points. Ashley Johnson scored 26, Millie Goebel 24 and Sasha Olson 23.
The ‘Cats entered the match in fourth place in the Wesco North with nine points; Marysville-Pilchuck leads with 12. A team gets three points for each three-team match win, two for second and one for third.
Cone (67.5 points) is second in the individual standings and Hamilton 11th (57.5); Everett’s Stefanie Soelling leads with 71. The medalist in each three-team match earns 18 points, second gets 17, etc.
Oak Harbor completes the Wesco regular season at the Whidbey Golf and Country Club Thursday, May 6, with Everett and Stanwood at 3 p.m.
