Celebrating Senior Night, the Coupeville boys soccer team defeated Lakewood 3-0 Tuesday, April 27, at Mickey Clark Field.
The contest was the final regular season home match for the Wolves, and fittingly, it was Coupeville’s “best overall performance” of the season, according to coach Paul Mendes.
Mendes added, “We played good defense, created opportunities and scored goals. Being Senior Night, it was a nice way to go out. It is a confidence builder going into the end of the season and playoffs.”
The Wolves (7-5, 7-6) wrap up the regular season with away matches at Cedarcrest (7-4, 7-6) Thursday, April 29, and South Whidbey (6-5, 6-6), Saturday, May 1. Playoffs begin Tuesday, May 4.
In Tuesday’s win over Lakewood (5-7, 5-9), two seniors led the action. Spencer Tack recorded two assists and a goal, and goal keeper Evan Ameluxen-Coleman recorded a shut out.
Another senior, Justin Adams, punched in the first goal off an assist from Tack nine minutes into the contest. Tony Jansen, with an assist from Tack, scored at the 15-minute mark.
In the second half, Tack added an unassisted goal at the 51-minute mark.
