After giving up eight goals in a match earlier in the week, the goal of the Coupeville boys soccer team at Sultan Thursday, April 22, was to play good team defense, according to coach Paul Mendes.
Mission accomplished: Coupeville 1, Sultan 0.
Spencer Tack scored in the 55th minute off an assist from Jack Caselden and the defense did the rest.
Mendes said, "Everyone raised their game; we played great team defense."
Isaac Wacker got his first start in goal and anchored the defensive effort. Wacker stopped everything, highlighted by "one great save in the first half," according to Mendes.
The win was the first ever for Coupeville at Sultan (3-8, 3-10).
The Wolves (6-5, 7-6) host Lakewood (5-6, 5-8) Tuesday, April 27, at 6 p.m.
