Oak Harbor’s David Phay, the Whidbey Golf and Country Club professional, won the Callaway Golf Invitational at the Gold Mountain Golf Complex in Bremerton April 19 and 20.
Phay shots rounds of 67 and 69 for a 136 to win the tournament by two strokes over a field of 63 golfers. He collected $5,000 for his victory.
The tournament is one of the premier events in the area for Professional Golf Association members. The Northwest Section of the PGA sponsors several major events a year; Phay said he has played in “five or six others.” His highest previous finish was sixth.
Next up for Phay is the Washington Open at the Glendale Country Club in Bellevue May 15-19.
