Soccer club hosts Rock On! tournament

The Fort Nugent fields will be home to Oak Harbor's sixth Annual Rock On! 3v3 Soccer Tournament Memorial Day weekend.

North Whidbey Soccer Club is hosting this event and expects up to 100 teams to participate.

Spokesman River Powers said, "The 3v3 soccer game is one of the fastest and most exciting games around, providing plenty of action for the athlete as well as the spectator."

Each game consists of two 12-minute halves with no stoppages of play (subs on the fly). The playing field is 30 yards wide by 40 yards long with a no-play zone in front of the goal instead of a goalie.

In addition to the thrilling 3v3 competition, the Rock On! will also offer the fast-moving game of Goalie Wars. Goalie Wars is played by two players on a short field, each trying to score as many goals as possible upon the opposing player while simultaneously defending his/her own goal.

The game is played in two- or three-minute halves (depending on the age group) with a one-minute half-time. Goalies attempt to score by punting, throwing, kicking, drop kicking, heading or rolling the ball.

Registration in the Rock On! 3v3 Soccer Tournament is open to age divisions U8 through U18. For their $125 registration fee, teams are guaranteed three games and generous goodies bags for each player. The registration deadline is May 15.
