The Wildcat soccer team showed improvement but fell at Monroe 3-1 Tuesday, April 13.
Coach Brian Thompson said he made some lineup changes that "created more space and more scoring opportunities for us up front."
Monroe had been double and triple teaming Greg Wolfe, so Thompson moved Ryan Fakkema and Mike Shevchuk to the forward position and Wolfe and Caleb Gatica to the center midfield. The moves helped the Wildcats generate more offense.
Oak Harbor scored on a penalty kick when Wolfe was fouled. Fakkema took the kick and, as Thompson said, "Drove it through their defensive wall."
Thompson also said that the 'Cat defense played much better. Marcos Anjos returned from injury and was "a dominant voice in the back line."
Oak Harbor plays Lake Stevens Friday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
