What a difference a day makes.

After suffering through a three-hit loss Tuesday, the Coupeville baseball team exploded for 12 hits and 15 runs in hammering visiting Sultan 15-5 Wednesday, April 7.

Ian Smith, who also picked up the win on the mound, led the Coupeville hit parade by going 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI in the six-inning game.

J.D. Wilcox, who was 2-for-4, added a double and two runs batted in. Kevin Eaton was also 2-for-4 and smacked a double, as did Chad Brookhouse.

Coach Willie Smith said, “We played really smart offensively. We ran the bases really well; we had five or six stolen bases.”

Defensively the Wolves turned three double plays to short circuit Turk rallies.

The two teams will meet in a double header Friday at Sultan (2-7) to finish up the three-game series. The double header was originally scheduled for today, April 7, but was postponed because of snow.

The Wolves (2-5, 4-5) entertain rival South Whidbey (3-4, 5-4) Monday, April 12, at 4 p.m. to start their next three-game set.
