Smith third in national wrestling tournament

Blake Smith, a sixth grader at Oak Harbor Middle School, placed third at the Rocky Mountain National Wrestling Tournament March 20 and 21.

Smith, 12, lost by two points in his opening bout at 130 pounds. He came back to get a pin within 30 second in his second match.

Sunday he won by 10 points before losing by a pin.

Smith wrestles for the Lynnwood Wrestling Club Preditors and is coached by Kirk Calkins.

Next up is the Reno Worlds April 9 and 10 which will feature an international field of top youth wrestlers.
