Sequim scored at the 30-minute mark and that tally held up as the Coupeville boys soccer team dropped its season opener 1-0 at Mickey Clark Field Saturday, March 20.
The win lifted Sequim to 3-0 for the year. The Wolves are 0-1; their original season-opening match with Friday Harbor scheduled for March 16 was postponed until April 16.
Coupeville coach Paul Mendes said the Wolves “came back strong in the second half creating numerous chances.”
However, Sequim goalkeeper John Textor made “some outstanding saves to preserve the shutout.”
Mendes was pleased with his defense. He said it “held together well throughout the game against a tough opponent.”
Nick Camporoni scored the match's only goal on a penalty kick.
Coupeville starts Cascade Conference play with four straight home matches beginning with King's Tuesday, March 23, at 6 p.m.
