Oak Harbor fastpitch player Whitney Osborn spoiled Burlington-Edison’s Lindsay Dawson’s bid for a no-hitter with a seventh-inning double in the Wildcats’ season-opening 6-0 loss on the Tigers’ field Monday, March 15.

The Wildcats were down to their final strike when Osborn drilled a two-out double over the left fielder’s head for Oak Harbor’s only hit.

Dawson dominated the Wildcat lineup with 10 strikeouts, six coming in the first seven batters. After getting a look at the Tiger ace, the Wildcat hitters were more consistent in putting the ball in play the second time through the lineup; however, they couldn’t find holes in the Tiger defense to produce any hits.

Burlington-Edison pushed across single runs in the first and second innings, then it tallied three more in the third to take control of the game.

Oak Harbor goes to Sehome Wednesday, March 17, then plays its first home game Friday at 4 p.m. against Squalicum at Hillcrest Elementary.
