The Oak Harbor High School wrestlers came from behind but couldn't hold the lead in a 42-31 loss at Arlington Wednesday.
The Wildcats found themselves down 24-13 after eight matches, but back-to-back pins by Corey Trimbur (112 pounds) and Ben Pralle (119) lifted Oak Harbor into the lead 25-24.
The Eagles (2-0, 4-1) responded with a pair of pins wrapped around an Oak Harbor forfeit at 130 pounds to clinch the match and withstand the Wildcats' Colton Elliot (140) win by a fall in the final bout.
Other winners for Oak Harbor were Drew Culver (215) with a fall, Brandon Stratton (145) win a 15-6 major decision and Zach Loescher (171) with a 6-2 decision.
Coach Mike Crebbin said, "We are improving; for the most part we are a young team. Even though some lost by a fall, they keep improving and are on the right track for district.
"Rather than focus on the score, we are trying to focus on character. That will pay off in the long run."
Oak Harbor (0-3, 2-5) travels to Stanwood Friday, Jan 8, and to the Everett Classic tournament Saturday.
