The frigid Northwest weather found a friend -- the Oak Harbor girls basketball team shot an ice-cold 18 percent from the field in losing to Snohomish 40-33 here Monday.
The loss was Oak Harbor's (3-1, 1-1) first of the year.
Jessica Denmon was the Wildcats' offense, scoring 19 points. No other OHHS players scored more than Nicole Mowbray's five.
The 'Cats led 15-14 midway through the second period. Snohomish went up by nine early in the third quarter before Oak Harbor narrowed the margin to three with six minutes left in the game.
For the second game in a row the Wildcats faced a triangle-and-two defense with Denmon and Mowbray facing man-to-man pressure.
Snohomish (2-3, 1-2) was led by Julia Young's 22 points, which included four 3-pointers.
