The Coupeville boys' tennis team overcame poor weather conditions and Friday Harbor to win its first conference title since 2005.
The Wolves thumped the Wolverines 5-0 in Friday Harbor last Saturday in 50-degree temperatures and 20 mile-per-hours winds.
Coupeville coach Ken Stange praised the play of Ben Hayes.
Hayes, playing in his first No. 1 singles match of the year after taking over the spot from teammate Connor Tasoff in practice last week, defeated Zach Milkis 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Stange was pleased with the adjustments Hayes made after losing the first set to come back and win the match.
Tasoff cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nick Roberts in second singles.
In first doubles action, Travis Curtin and Garrett Knoll defeated Alex Jangard and Brent Sandifer 6-3, 6-4.
Stange paired the Lamb brothers, Jordan and Nathan, for the first time this season and the duo took second doubles from Hayden Place and Parker Satin 6-1, 6-1.
Sam Weaver and Nic Anthony were winners in third doubles 7-6, 6-4 over Westin Hedin and Trevor Youngquist.
Coupeville finishes up its regular season matches this Friday at home against Friday Harbor at 2:30.
Wednesday, Oct 21, the Wolves go back to Friday Harbor for the district tournament.
