Former Oak Harbor resident Marti Malloy won the 57 kg division at the U.S. Open Judo Championships Sept. 27 in San Jose.

After finishing either second or third for four consecutive years, Malloy finally broke through and won the title.

Malloy, who trained in Oak Harbor from six years old through high school, currently trains out of San Jose. She is a two-time U.S. world team member and has a good shot at making the next Olympic team.
